We know that deaf people are more likely to get ill than hearing people. We are told plenty
of horror stories. Deaf people not understanding what's wrong or taking the wrong
medication. Deaf people not given an interpreter at the doctors.
But it doesn’t have to be like this!
To improve health services for deaf people, we need evidence that things are not working
well. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of good scientific 'evidence'. Without this it is hard
to get health services to change. No-one has tried to get this evidence before... until now.
SignHealth is leading a group of Deaf organisations to produce the scientific evidence.
Full
details here. For the first stage, we need Deaf people to complete an online survey (in BSL
and English). We can then compare the results from Deaf people with results from hearing
people.
Will you take part in the research?
We will contact you with some updates and let you know when the survey is launched. If
you have changed your mind then you can just say 'no'. You are not committing to anything.
